HR Certification & Professional Development

Earning an HR certification strengthens your credibility, expands your impact, and signals commitment to the profession. HRCC encourages members to pursue certification and supports professional growth through education, peer connection, and local learning opportunities.

National HR Certifications

SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management)

SHRM-CP – SHRM Certified Professional: A credential for early-to-mid-level HR professionals focused on operations, policy implementation, and day-to-day HR duties. It validates proficiency in HR principles, requiring no specific degree or prior experience, making it ideal for those starting or advancing in HR careers.

SHRM-SCP - SHRM Senior Certified Professional: A premier credential for HR professionals who operate strategically, developing policies, driving organizational goals, and managing HR operations.

Earn global recognition and showcase your HR expertise with SHRM-CP® and SHRM-SCP® certifications

These credentials validate your ability to address real-world challenges, setting you apart as a leader in human resources. Backed by SHRM, they offer flexible learning, competency-based testing, and universal relevance. Employers value these certifications as benchmarks of HR excellence, advancing careers while driving workplace success.

aPHR – Associated Professional in Human Resources:  HRCI's Associate Professional in Human Resources® (aPHR®) is the perfect certification to help fast-track your career growth. The aPHR is the first-ever HR certification designed for two distinct types of individuals: human resources professionals who are just beginning their HR career journey and non-HR professionals.

PHR - Professional in Human Resources: Advance your HR career with the Professional in Human Resources® (PHR®) certification. The PHR certification emphasizes a practitioner's operational responsibilities for the organization’s HR department.

SPHR - Senior Professional in Human Resources: HR professionals with strategic and policy-making backgrounds are ideal candidates for the Senior Professional in Human Resources® (SPHR®). The credential is designed for leaders responsible for planning rather than implementing HR policy in the U.S. SPHR professionals tend to be accountable for HR department goals, planning and executing business strategies and technology while understanding the overall HR needs of the organization.

PHRca - Professional in Human Resources – California: Adding the Professional in Human Resources – California® (PHRca®) to your portfolio demonstrates your knowledge of HR laws, regulations and management practices unique to the state of California.
